Actively promote public and patient involvement by seeking input from patients, family members, voluntary groups and other stakeholders. The post requires highly-developed physical and clinical skills where accuracy is important, including equipment calibration, insertion of probe microphones into ears, fitting hearing aids to adults. Perform all standard scientific and technical diagnostic duties in all areas of Adult Audiology with some more advanced work in the case load. Take detailed a medical and audiological history, interpret test results and explain these to the patient/carer in an appropriate, empathetic manner, being sensitive to the complex issues surrounding patients who are deaf or hard of hearing. Produce detailed reports advising the medical referrer and the patient/carer on management options and the agreed treatment plan. Using clinical judgement and procedural guidelines and protocols, perform physical and clinical examination of adult patients in relation to audiological assessment and (re)habilitation. This may regularly entail physically positioning and manoeuvring patients and equipment which will require effective communication with and co-operation of the patient. Formulate, agree, and provide patient-specific treatment plans for the management of their hearing loss. Perform outcome measures by using standardised quantifiable methods, such as questionnaires. Administer the questionnaires in accordance with protocols. Keep accurate and timely electronic patient records including test results and journal entries on a computerised patient management system and database. Participate in clinical audit and any on-going research and development of new techniques within the service. Other duties appertaining to NHS patients as and when required. Present complex information to large groups: presents training and relevant audiological information to various professions. Continuous interaction and counselling with patients. Undertake hearing assessments of adults of all ages which includes history taking and discussion with the patient/relative Undertake hearing aid assessments, fitting, validation and ongoing support of patients according to current agreed protocols including hearing aid verification using Real Ear Measurement systems, RECD, and free field testing as appropriate, and act appropriately on information obtained from insertion gain testing.
