Neway International are seeking a Street Cleansing Operative (Grade 3) – Building Services & Maintenance to join our client based with Newport City Council.

Location: Telford Street, Newport, NP19 0ES Hours: 37 hours per week Start Date: 5th January 2026 End Date: 27th March 2026 (12 weeks) Pay Rates:

PAYE: £13.05 per hour

Limited/Umbrella: £16.83 per hour

The Role
This temporary position covers sickness absence within the team. The successful candidate will carry out contractual street cleansing and refuse collection duties under the supervision of the Assistant Manager (Refuse & Cleansing) and Supervisors.

Key Responsibilities
Complete daily cleansing tasks in line with contract specifications and route schedules

Comply with Health & Safety regulations, including wearing protective clothing and footwear

Report incidents, accidents, and faults promptly

Attend training courses as required

Undertake street cleansing and refuse collection duties as directed

Candidate Requirements
Knowledge of the Newport area (essential)

Experience in refuse or cleansing services (desirable)

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Strong customer care and communication skills

Physically fit to manage walking, lifting, and outdoor work in all weather

Willingness to work a rostered shift pattern including weekends and Bank Holidays

Full UK driving licence (desirable)
