We urgently require two support workers to provide 2:1 support for a 16-year-old male child with Autism, a significant learning disability & limited verbal communication. There are existing support workers in place, however we now require additional support to cover holidays.Main DutiesThe role is to support this young person to access age-appropriate activities in the community. He enjoys bike rides, swimming and going to the beach and park.
- Male workers would be preferred (although not essential) as the young man will require support with personal care.
- Support is also required with the young person’s limited ability to communicate verbally.
- His first language is Arabic however he has few familiar or contextual words in Arabic or English.
- He makes use of visual prompts such as PECs and communication books in school and continuation of this would be preferred.
- The child can become very anxious and distressed in busy places, which can affect his behaviour, and he requires a high level of supervision to keep him safe. He has limited awareness of risk and full support will be required with this.
- Have a positive understanding about young people who have disabilities
- Have a genuine interest in working with young people with complex needs
- Be able to respond positively, sensitively and effectively with challenging behaviours
- Have knowledge and experience of working with young people who have very limited verbal communication skills
- Have a high degree of initiative
- Be punctual and reliable as the young person cannot be left unsupervised
- Be flexible and have a positive and caring nature
- Respect confidentiality
- 5 hours per week in term time weeks and 10 hours per week in all school holiday weeks.
- £13.74 per hour.
- Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata.
- Out of pocket expenses to be paid by employer.
The successful candidate will require an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS), cost to be met by employer.
