Summary
The postholder will lead work and services which support colleagues to innovate their
learning, teaching and assessment practices, and ultimately, the quality of student education
across the University. Leading teams of academic developers and learning designers, the Head
of Educational Development will evolve a business partnering relationship to
enable successful collaboration between the Education Development
team, academic teams and professional services, enhancing the whole student learning
journey.
The role holder will work collaboratively across global Middlesex to design, deliver and evaluate
a comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) offer for academic and third
space professions service colleagues, including leading flagship programs including
the Advance HE Fellowship scheme and the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education
(PgCert HE). They will contribute to cross-university education enhancement projects and bring
innovation to programme design and review.
Principal Duties:
• To lead and manage teams of senior academic developers and learning designers,
ensuring their impactful and expert input into curriculum design and educational
development
• Design, deliver and evaluate programmes of development for academic and
education-focused professional staff, aligning these offers to role,
career trajectory and opportunities for educational leadership, and including
the flagship including AdvanceHE Fellowship routes and NTF and CATE applications
• Support cross-University education development initiatives and action plans in
collaboration with Campuses, Faculties, Schools, Professional Service
• Design, project manage and evaluate education enhancement projects, aligning work
with operational plans, KPIs and strategic objectives
• Foster student-centred and students-as-partners educational development, informed
by close relationships with Middlesex Student Union, data-led understanding of
student demographics and close dialogue with Student Voice representatives
• Develop and implement staff development programmes and workshop offers for
academic and education-focused professional staff, aligning these offers to
role, career trajectory and opportunities for educational leadership
• Lead on Middlesex University Teaching Excellence Awards, the Annual Learning and
Teaching Conference and internal and external facing showcase and discussion
events
• Manage collaborative work with the Quality Enhancement and Teaching Excellence
Team in assuring and enhancing programme design and review and institutional
partnership approval and validation
• Manage the deployment of educational expertise to Faculty and Institutional
programmes of portfolio development using an agile business partnering approach
• Foster a culture of collaboration and partnership working between Educational
Development and teams across Student Life and Student Administration
• Co-ordinate bids for relevant project funding from external bodies and networks, and
lead institutional and collaborative projects
• In liaison with Head of Quality, Enhancement and Teaching Excellence and Head
of Access and Participation, support policy and process improvement related to
learning, teaching practice, impact and staff development
• Contribute to the field of Learning and Teaching through external networks, as an
ambassador for the university, and raise L&T staff awareness of sector
networks, debate and good practice
• Contribute to cross-University events (for example Welcome week, Graduation and
Clearing) as required
