Job Description

Role – Assistant Service Manager (Children Services)
Location – GCHSCP, Ladywell Business Centre, 94 Duke Street, Glasgow, G4 0UW
Hours and Shift Pattern – evening, weekend or on call work is a requirement
Status – Permanent

Are you interested in working for the largest local authority in Scotland, in partnership with the NHS, to help improve the health and wellbeing of our community? Then, you are in the right place!

We, in Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP), are excited to be expanding our management team through the recruitment of an Assistant Service Manager to join Families for Children (Fostering, Adult Placement and Adoption Services).

Do you have the relevant skills, knowledge and experience, to work in line with the Promise to support Families for Children Services to deliver good quality care experiences to Glasgow’s children and young people?

Applicants should be experienced in supporting children and/or young people within their foster placements to achieve their full potential and to work alongside the team around the child / young person to secure a permanent future. This could be at home with their families, adoption, or remaining within their fostering family until they reach adulthood.

You should be committed to implementing the Promise and to keeping siblings together and promoting lifelong connections between children / young people and those important to them. Additionally, you should be able to lead a team of staff in taking a strengths focused, nurturing, trauma informed and anti-poverty based approach to ensure the wellbeing of care experienced children and young people. The successful candidate will chair meetings, including foster carer reviews, linking meetings for adoption, lead on service developments and quality assurance audits within the service, to ensure the highest standards are maintained for Glasgow’s children. Managers also contribute to an on call rota, and at times may work out with standard working hours on planned pieces of work.

If you have these qualities and want to join our extensive family placement team, within the largest Local Authority in Scotland then we welcome an application from you.

Applicants should possess a Degree / Diploma in Social Work CQSW, CSS or equivalent Social Worker qualification. Please refer to the Person Specification for full details of the required qualifications, skills, knowledge and competencies that are required for the above role.

Knowledge and experience of family placement work is preferred and a knowledge of Continuing Care legislation is desirable but not essential, as we are a registered service for Adult Placements for young people up to the age of 21, where the young person chooses to remain with their foster carer.

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.

Registration to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is an essential requirement for this role. You must either be already registered or have applied within 3 months and be registered within 6 months from your start date. Please note as part of the local government pay deal, local authority staff are currently not required to pay SSSC fees.

These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).

Interviews will likely take place the week beginning 19th January 2026.

If you would like to find out more about the role before applying, you can contact: Joanne Bradley, Service Manager, on 0141 420 5555 or by email joanne.bradley@glasgow.gov.uk
