Organisational Overview
The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) protects people in England and Wales who may not have the mental capacity to make certain decisions for themselves, such as about their health and finance. We are an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), set up in 2007 following the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act of 2005.
OPG is responsible for registering lasting powers of attorney (LPA) and enduring powers of attorney (EPA) and supervising deputies who are appointed by the Court of Protection.

Team Overview
The Senior Operational delivery roles, sits within Supervision & Investigation Services, specifically responsible for the Investigation functions of the OPG.
These exciting and demanding roles provide a great opportunity for a skilled and experienced leader to develop their career in the Civil Service. These roles involve working closely with Policy and Legal colleagues, as well as providing leadership across Operations and also working with external stakeholders including the Court of Protection, Social Care, the Legal Sector and the Police. The successful candidates will need to demonstrate strong leadership and champion the values of the Office of the Public Guardian by leading, supporting and managing a number of teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
1) Leadership and management of several teams across Supervision & Investigation Services.
1. Provide leadership in supporting teams to deliver the statutory functions of the public guardian. provide outstanding customer service, and take on a leadership role across operations
2. Support and coordinate the implementation of guidance, advice and training across the team to provide high quality investigators and investigations.
3. Play a leading role in meeting performance expectations, delivering difficult messages when required and looking at new and innovative ways of working.
2) Play a key role in the leadership of SIS / Operations.
1. Work proactively with colleagues within and beyond SIS to develop and deliver ongoing improvements in our service
2. Provide support, leadership and, when necessary, challenge to staff, including playing a leading role in developing staff engagement
3. Chair meetings as required
4. Play a leading role in working with colleagues to resolve problems quickly and improve performance, using management information and feedback from customers
5. Build and maintain relationships with wider senior leadership team and across other parts of OPG, providing a supportive cohesive unit.
3) Team Working-Support and contribute to the aims, objectives and performance of the OPG through close collaboration with colleagues across SIS and wider operational colleagues.

5) Health and Safety-Take reasonable care for own health and safety for the safety of others and abide by OPG Health and Safety procedure
6) Other Duties-Undertake any other duties commensurate with the skill set of this post
Agreed Expectations
The successful candidate will be expected to work from their base location on a weekly basis in line with current Civil Service requirements, outside of any reasonable adjustments.
• Regular travel between Nottingham and Birmingham will be required (travel costs will be met by the business) where travel is outside of normal business requirements.
• Full time training on Investigations will be required.
• All Training is delivered Face to Face (office attendance required)
• This role will be required to be fulfilled Full time (37hrs P/W)
• Ability to Work from Home will be reviewed over the initial 6-month period.

• Experience of leading high-quality investigations / supervision or enforcement related work, and delivering performance through difficult and stretching times, ensuring staff engagement is maintained.
• Understanding of the “bigger picture” and making decisions that better impact the organisation, even when this may cause additional pressure in the short term.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships across both operations but with other directorates / stakeholders.
• Ability to lead and motivate large and diverse teams with a focus on successfully delivering change and continually improving.
• Through effective leadership, role model the OPG Values and what this means to our staff.
• Ability to set high standards of customer excellence and deliver these consistently.
• A self-starter able to work on their own initiative, managing competing priorities in a fast paced and challenging environment
