Grade - match clinical grade

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join our Team, to provide clinical skills teaching to undergraduate medical students. This is a fixed-term appointment for 12 months, with ongoing funding reviewed each 12 months.

The University of Dundee enjoys international reputation for excellence that attracts top-class students and academics from across the world - with over 140 countries represented in the University community. You will be based at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, one of Europe's largest teaching hospitals where the School of Medicine provides outstanding opportunities in medical education and training supported by world class research facilities.

The Clinical Skills Centre at the University of Dundee was established 30 years ago in recognition of the Medical School's commitment to preparing students for clinical practice. The centre has grown over this time and now comprises of multiple clinical teaching rooms and seminar rooms and a simulated ward, outpatient area and high dependency unit. More recently we have expanded our facilities to include specialist simulation areas incorporating the latest technology in ultrasound training, virtual and augmented reality and an immersion room. The centre was completely refurbished in 2021 and provides students with an engaging learning environment in which to practice their skills in preparation for clinical placements.

The Clinical Skills Centre and its staff deliver a strand of simulation-based learning experiences throughout the five-year medical degree programme. Students visit the centre on a weekly basis during their first three years for teaching in procedural skills, examination skills, communication skills and non-technical skills. They then return for specific sessions on more advanced skills during their clinical placements in years four and five. The Centre also delivers a portfolio of postgraduate courses and supports training in the local NHS. The clinical skills programmes are supported by a team of 16 academic staff, 3 simulation technicians and 5 administrative staff.

We are delighted to be able to expand our team and offer the opportunity for an individual with an interest in healthcare education to join us.

Your priorities will include:

  • Delivery and development of clinical skills teaching and assessment for the MBChB programme.
  • To seek new opportunities for innovation, research and improvement projects in clinical skills and simulation.
  • To disseminate educational scholarship findings through peer-reviewed international journals and conferences.

The post will also provide time and opportunity for personal professional development

Who we're looking for:

  • A clinician with full GMC registration and a current NHS clinical role.
  • Sufficient clinical experience for the needs of the post, either completion or close to completion of specialty training.
  • Evidence of a commitment to medical education.
  • A postgraduate qualification in education is desirable.

The University of Dundee is a signatory of the Researcher Development Concordat and is committed to enhancing the research environment and culture. Engagement and support of activities which assist the researcher development agenda at the University is therefore essential.
