Summary

Main Responsibilities

Thanet District Council is looking for a Housing Improvement Assistant to join its Private Sector Housing Team.

The team helps to safeguard the health and safety of residents living in all private sector homes, but primarily responds to complaints of housing disrepair from tenants living in the private rented sector. The team also enforces the law relating to unlawful eviction and harassment, regulates private sector housing through statutory licensing regimes, and endeavours to bring long term empty homes back into use.

You will help Thanet’s private sector residents lead safer, healthier and happier lives by providing comprehensive administrative support to the Private Sector Housing Team.

You will have experience of maintaining accurate computerised and written records and will have an excellent telephone manner and be able to respond to queries efficiently and professionally.

The working pattern for this role is every Thursday and Friday, and alternate Wednesdays.

Essential Requirements

Applicants will have an awareness of the council’s private sector housing functions and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent customer service and written skills are essential, as are attention to detail and accuracy. Applicants will have the ability to confidently use Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and similar software packages. Four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths, are required.

Due to the nature of the role the successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check as part of their pre-employment checks
