A fantastic opportunity awaits a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, supportive, and RCVS-accredited small animal practice nestled in a popular market town in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Situated in the heart of a charming and historic community on the outskirts of Cardiff, the clinic offers the perfect blend of rural tranquillity and urban convenience. The town is well-loved for its independent shops, cosy cafés, inviting restaurants, and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. With the coast, rolling countryside, and the buzz of Cardiff city centre all just a short journey away, it’s an ideal location for anyone seeking a rewarding career alongside an exceptional quality of life.

The Lead Veterinary Surgeon will enjoy a varied and well-balanced role, combining consulting and surgical responsibilities within a close-knit team of three Vets, RVNs, SVNs, and dedicated Receptionists. This busy small animal practice is equipped with two operating theatres, imaging facilities, dental x-ray, and laser technology—everything needed to deliver outstanding clinical care with confidence.

This is a full-time position, offering 40 hours per week and a shared 1-in-4 Saturday morning rota (9am–1pm).

In this role, the Lead Veterinary Surgeon will:

• Deliver exceptional clinical care during consultations and procedures
• Provide outstanding client communication and patient updates
• Uphold the highest standards of regulatory, operational, and clinical compliance
• Prepare tailored, accurate treatment plans with clear cost estimates
• Lead, mentor, and develop team members, nurturing their clinical skills
• Manage clinical handovers and organise transfer of patients requiring out-of-hours or advanced care

Skills and Experience

• RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon
• Proven experience delivering excellent patient and client care
• Collaborative approach to teamwork
• Demonstrable clinical leadership abilities
• Experience fostering a progressive clinical culture
• Understanding of the value of nurse consults and Schedule 3 procedures to overall clinic performance
• Skilled in coaching and influencing to bring out the best in colleagues
