Summary

Do you want to drive forward the circular economy, influence future legislation, and reduce waste crime – not just here in the UK but also internationally?

We’re looking for an Advisor to join our Waste Shipments and International Engagement team to help deliver the Government’s Resources and Waste Strategy.

You’ll work with Environment Agency colleagues, Defra, UK devolved administrations, and Industry to deliver significant changes as we reform legislation and processes relating to the international movement of waste.

You can make a difference. Through your work on regulatory reform within the International Waste Shipments regime, you will help ensure that imports and exports of waste do not harm people or the environment.

You’ll need to be adaptable, self-motivated and able to translate policy into reality.

You’ll be involved in all aspects of our work, including:

• Working closely with stakeholders across government and industry to influence and implement a new charging scheme and regulatory reform for waste shipments
• Working with Environment Agency colleagues to ensure we have the right people and processes in place to fully realise the benefits of regulatory reform for waste shipments
• Deliver communications and engagement work relating to our reform project
• Lead on the production and implementation of work instructions and guidance for our operational staff
• Link in with the Digital Waste Tracking project and other areas of digital improvement
• Provide technical advice within the Environment Agency and to industry
• Support our wider Waste Shipments and International Engagement work – being flexible to adjust to changing priorities

We’re looking for applicants who believe that having a truly diverse, representative, and engaged workforce is fundamental to protect the environment and effectively serve the communities we live in.
The team
The Waste Shipments and International Engagement Team is part of Waste and Resources Regulation within the Environment and Business (E&B) Directorate.

E&B uses evidence, expertise, and innovation to support delivery, influence policy, legislation and secure resources. The Waste Shipments team ensures legislation is fit for purpose for everyone governed by regulations relating to the international movement of waste.

Our team sets strategic direction and shapes how we do things in the Waste Shipments regime.
