Summary

To provide an essential first point of contact between screening women, other Trust staff and staff outside the hospital and the Breast Screening department both on reception desk and over telephone. To gain a working knowledge of the NHS Breast Screening Programme. To be conversant with breast screening software and competent in accurately entering and retrieving data as required. To be fully conversant with the NBSS, RIS, PAS systems and other software used within the department. To follow all checking and verification procedures to ensure accurate patient data is recorded and issued. Dealing and being confident with queries, including telephone and emails from staff within the Trust, outside the hospital and patients in a timely and courteous manner, providing advice, information and guidance as required. Being able to cope with all types of people in very different emotional dispositions and with a high level of tact and diplomacy. To load/unload the transit trolleys when required following written protocol, passing appropriate items to Planning and Workflow Manager Provide accurate and confidential information strictly adherent to Caldicott and Data Protection Act and retrieval of patient information via PAS, NBSS and RIS when appropriate. To be conversant with Microsoft Word and e-mail applications where appropriate and undertake any further training to fulfil the needs of the department. To ensure prompt delivery of and response to messages. To undertake general office tasks and to liaise with the other team members to ensure that all tasks to be undertaken within the office are completed. To prioritise and manage workload duties according to broad guidelines and procedures and maintain high levels of concentration with a frequent number of telephone calls, interruptions. To initiate and participate in the development of policies and procedures affecting ones own and other staff within the office working practice. To undertake duties for members of staff within the department when required. To attend the monthly department audit and staff meeting. To be committed to the Trust PDP and undertake mandatory training on a regular basis and adhere to the Health and Safety at Work Act. To train new and bank staff when appropriate. To work flexibly as the needs of the department dictate. Please see the attached job description for full details.
