About the Role
HM Coroner for Nottinghamshire investigates deaths where the cause is unknown, violent or unnatural, or occurred in lawful custody.
As a Coroner’s Officer, you will receive and process reports of deaths within Nottinghamshire, liaising with bereaved families, police, medical professionals, and other agencies. To be part of our team, and able to deliver this key role, you will need to be confident in dealing sensitively and professionally with a wide range of people, and particularly those who are vulnerable and/or distressed.
The role requires excellent organisational and time management skills to manage a complex caseload effectively. You will need to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work under pressure. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with resilience to deal with challenging and emotional circumstances.
You must be committed to delivering a high standard of service in compliance with coronial legislation, including the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 and associated regulations, as well as the Chief Coroner’s guidance.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven successful office experience in a high pressured and sensitive environment.
- Demonstratable experience of learning new and complex procedures and ability to explain difficult and complex terms clearly and with empathy.
- Organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines, prioritising work and managing a caseload effectively.
- A full understanding of customer care and the ability to deal with customers with tact, discretion and understanding.
- Good interpersonal skills and a proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels in both individual and group situations.
- Will be able to adapt well to challenging circumstances including emotional resilience when dealing with all details surrounding the reports and causes of deaths.
Core working hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. The role may require you to stay later to support court on rare occasions and some flexibility is required.
This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) (English Language Requirement for public sector workers) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English, is an essential requirement for the role
