“I love living at Blaen Y Waun. The staff here help me with everything I need and make me feel safe. We get to go on holidays and do lots of fun things. I’ve never been on a plane before, but I’m going abroad soon and I can’t wait!” – Young person in our care
A day in the life of a Support Worker at Blaen Y Waun:
- Supporting children and young people’s emotional and physical needs in a safe, caring environment.
- Acting as a positive role model, encouraging independence and confidence.
- Supporting with school, social and work-based activities, as well as community outings.
- Tailoring support to meet individual needs and development plans.
- Recording progress, activities, and any incidents clearly and accurately.
- Helping with everyday tasks such as meal preparation and general household duties.
- Supporting at Ty Canol, the second home of Blaen Y Waun just a few minutes up the road.
“Before joining Blaen Y Waun & Ty Canol, I worked in retail for 10 years. Making the move into residential childcare took me a long time, but I’m so glad I finally did it — I only wish I’d done it sooner. No day is ever the same, and this job has given me real purpose when I wake up in the morning. Both homes have such a warm, supportive environment where everyone wants the best for the young people. When I started, I didn’t have much confidence, but the team really believed in me and helped me grow. I’d encourage anyone to make the jump into care — it’s the best decision I’ve made.” – Support Worker, Priority Childcare
