A Vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Join the forward‑thinking and dynamic Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at UCLH as a Trust Fellow in Education and Anaesthesia. This 12‑month fellowship is an exceptional opportunity for an enthusiastic, driven clinician to shape and deliver outstanding education while maintaining a fulfilling clinical practice. You will play a key role in promoting excellence by designing, delivering and evaluating high‑quality training across anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.

Working in close partnership with UCL, our department offers a rich educational portfolio, blending digital and face‑to‑face delivery. Highlights include an award‑winning MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) series developed with UCL Digital Education and hosted on FutureLearn (reaching over 80,000 learners globally), alongside a busy local programme including resident teaching, an airway management forum (Airway Hub), a quality improvement forum (QI Hub), dedicated regional anaesthesia Sono Club teaching and several simulation courses.

This fellowship combines an equal mix of clinical duties and protected time for educational development, giving you the space to contribute to, and expand, established teaching programmes while building your own portfolio of educational projects, take part in curriculum design and evaluation, and develop senior leadership and management skills.

Start date: Wednesday 5th August 2026

The Fellowship post is for a split Clinical and Education Fellowship and will involve 50% of protected time on educational activities and 50% on clinical duties, including an on-call commitment

Clinical duties will include sessions in areas of personal interest and will be dependent upon departmental needs. Fellows will also be given the opportunity to run appropriate elective lists independently to build their clinical practice.

On call commitments are typically 1 in 9, covering theatres and/or the labour ward. Where the on-call rota is full, an alternative rota will apply – this will be discussed beforehand should it apply.

The successful candidate will grow a distinguished educational portfolio by contributing to UCLH’s anaesthesia broad digital and face‑to‑face programmes. Opportunities include:

- Designing and sustaining a high‑quality teaching programme for Stage 1 and Stage 2 residents.
- Taking a leadership role to streamline, promote and coordinate departmental teaching across sites.
- Leading an FRCA revision programme (VIVA practice, OSCEs) to support exam preparation and examiner‑style feedback.
- Delivering and developing local simulation and practical skills courses.
- Enhancing and updating the UCL/UCLH MOOC series to extend reach and impact.
