Join us as a Patient safety partner and make a real difference in our hospitals.

This is an evolving role developed by NHS England to strengthen patient safety across healthcare in the UK. Patient safety partners can be patients, carers, family members, or members of the public – including NHS staff from other organisations. We welcome people from all backgrounds, cultures, and communities, including those living with different conditions, to ensure a wide range of voices are heard.

As a Patient safety partner, you’ll work alongside our staff, volunteers, patients, and families to help shape safer, kinder, and more person-centred care. Your voice matters and by sharing your experiences and perspectives, you’ll play a vital role in making changes that truly enhance patient safety across our hospitals. This is a unique opportunity to influence how care is delivered, ensuring it reflects the needs, wants, and preferences of the people we serve.

One of our current Patient safety partners says that "I genuinely feel my input is valued and contributes to positive changes, especially in the various projects we are involved in. It is fulfilling to know that my perspective plays a role in enhancing patient safety practices."

Additional (optional) contributions include: £5 per day for IT kit/Wi-Fi/printing/power Public transport reimbursed at cost; taxis booked in advance and paid by the Trust.

Day-to-day you are likely to find yourself:
• Talking with patients and staff about safety and what matters to them.
• Advocating for patients, carers and families and to ensure that their perspectives and considerations are prioritised.
• Contributing to safety governance by sitting on relevant committees, reviewing and commenting on meeting papers and reports.
• Inputting into how safety issues should be addressed and providing feedback and challenge to enable us to learn and change as an organisation.
• Inputting into any relevant strategies and policies.
• Helping to develop patient safety information resources.
