Crynodeb
The Table Office provides a high quality, impartial and confidential service to all Senedd Members. It is responsible for the acceptance and processing of tabled Questions, Motions and Amendments for debate, Statements of Opinion, Laid Documents and ensuring that all such material is published bilingually on the Intranet and/or Internet. Table Office also acts as the custodian of the Register of Members’ Interests.
As Clerking Support Officer, the post-holder will be part of a team responsible for ensuring that Senedd business is managed smoothly and effectively and that Members and staff receive a high standard of service in both of the Senedd’s Official Languages. This includes working with Table Office Clerks to ensure that business documents are processed in line with the Presiding Officer’s Guidance and the Senedd’s Standing Orders and published bilingually in a timely manner.
The post involves regular contact with Senedd Members, Senedd Members’ support staff, and staff of the Welsh Government.
Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate will be expected to work flexible hours, including working beyond the office’s core hours in exceptional circumstances during work periods to ensure the publication of tabled business.
The post requires first-rate organisational skills; the ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities; strong interpersonal skills and political impartiality at all times.
You will work with Members on the tabling of questions and motions, advise them on the rules around registering interests, and support the administration of cross-party groups You will have an aptitude for learning new software packages with the goal of improving individual and team performance in innovative ways.

The successful applicant will be required to fulfil the following duties:
Table Office Clerking Support Officer:
- Supporting the work of the Table Office and the organisation more generally in and around the Senedd election of 2026, including the induction of new Members and supporting Senedd business in the period following the election.
- Advising on the admissibility of tabled business (Oral and Written Questions, motions and amendments, Statements of Opinion and Laid Documents);
- Organising ballots for Oral Questions and Short Debates;
- Advising on the admissibility of Senedd Bills and related documents and ensuring that they are compliant with Standing Orders and any determination(s) made by the Presiding Officer; and
- Checking the compliance of Cross-Party Groups with the Rules for the operation of Cross-Party Groups.
In all of the above, the post holder may have direct contact with Senedd Members and/or SM Support Staff, Senedd/Welsh Government staff of all levels, and outside organisations.
The job description will develop with time and link with a Performance Development Review Plan.
Job Specific criteria:
1. Communication skills: effective and adaptable written and online communication skills and an ability to converse confidently, accurately and efficiently with members of staff at all grades and other key stakeholders.
2. Attention to detail: Ability to accurately draft documents, such as letters, meeting notes and reports/briefings.
3. Organisational skills and agility: The ability to organise your own time effectively, with the flexibility to react to last minute changes or requests whilst delivering high quality work to short and long term deadlines.
4. ICT Skills: Proven track record of using office software packages (e.g. Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Teams, OneNote) as well as experience of learning to use more role-specific software packages, and experience of using IT to improve how services are delivered to customers.
Desirable criteria:
The following qualities are not essential for this particular post but have been deemed as desirable. These will only be taken into account in the event of two (or more) candidates acquiring the same score at either application or interview stage.
1. Parliamentary awareness: a level of understanding of the work of the Senedd and what it means to work impartially in a political environment.
