Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Lecturer in Criminology to join our team on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and high-quality teaching to learners across the Criminology curriculum, ensuring excellent learner experience and academic progress.




This role requires an experienced lecturer who can start immediately and maintain high academic standards throughout the duration of the assignment.



Post Title: Lecturer in Criminology

Hourly Rate £35

Location: Southend-on-Sea SS1 1ND

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: 18 December 2025

Hours per Week: 37





Working Pattern:

  • Monday-Thursday: 8:30am - 17:00pm
  • Friday: 8:30am - 16:30pm
  • Role Type: Temporary




Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in Criminology.
  • Prepare and deliver lessons, seminars, and workshops in line with curriculum requirements.
  • Support learners through effective academic guidance, feedback, and tutorial support.
  • Develop lesson plans, learning materials, and assessments that meet awarding body standards.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of learner progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Support curriculum development and enhancement where required.
  • Participate in team meetings, staff development, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.




Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, DET, Cert Ed, QTLS, or equivalent).
  • Degree or higher qualification in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering Criminology content in FE or HE settings.
  • Strong understanding of criminological theories, criminal justice systems, policing, and related fields.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging, inclusive, and effective lessons.
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, and organisational skills.



Desirable:

  • Experience delivering units across Level 3-5 Criminology or related programmes.
  • Experience supporting learners with diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms and digital teaching tools.
