Why Derwentside College?
Derwentside College is one of the top performing colleges in the region for its learner and employer satisfaction. We are an ambitious organisation and as a large provider of apprenticeships we are leading the way in delivering a range of outstanding services to learners and employers.
Derwentside College’s Engineering Department have developed long-standing partnerships with several leading engineering employers in the North East. As such, we are fortunate enough to be training some of the region’s most talented trainee engineers within our brand new advanced manufacturing workshop and testing areas.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to teach and assess students in our Engineering Department. The ideal candidate will have hands-on project experience, proficiency in CAD (specifically SolidWorks), and expertise in turning/lathe operations.
What You Will Do: Ideally, you will have a track record of excellence in teaching that will allow you to deliver Advanced Manufacturing Engineering up to Levels 4 or 5. You will be qualified to this level or above and possess industry experience that enables you to contextualise your teaching with specific examples. You will be able to evidence professional development that gives you currency in the sector. Strong communication and organisational skills, along with the ability to inspire and motivate students, are essential.
The successful candidate will deliver engaging and effective lessons in engineering subjects, assess student performance and provide constructive feedback, develop and implement curriculum plans, guide students through practical projects and ensure they gain hands-on experience, utilise SolidWorks for CAD instruction and project development, teach and supervise turning/lathe operations, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and practices.
We are looking for someone who can bring a wealth of skills and knowledge that will, in turn, benefit our local community. This is an opportunity for a passionate individual who wishes to work in a stimulating environment to inspire our learners. You will be responsible for student learning, curriculum development, pastoral care, and administration, sharing your skills and knowledge, as well as developing and maintaining high levels of student retention and attendance.
This is an opportunity for a passionate individual who wishes to work in a truly stimulating and rewarding environment.
