A Vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking to appoint a registrar doctor (ie with full MRCP) to join our team in Acute Medicine at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a fixed-term 6-month appointment, starting February 2026.
This post offers specialist experience in acute medicine combined with substantial training opportunities. The clinical work includes both day and night shifts working on the acute medical take alongside another medical registrar, as well as experience in the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU), ambulatory care and on cardiology ward rounds. There is also substantial self-development time (SDT) built into the work schedule (roughly 1 week in every 8).
Our department consistently receives excellent feedback from our trainees in the yearly GMC survey. We are committed to providing the best possible training and clinical experience to all our doctors, whether in training posts, or locally employed doctors on fixed-term contracts.

This is a registrar-level role, and is thus suitable for doctors at training grade of ST3 and above. The appointed doctor will become a core member of the Acute Medicine team.
The work schedule runs on a repeating 8 week cycle (available in the job description), which includes on call duties: weekends, evenings and night shifts. All appointed fellows will be supported by a named educational supervisor, and by the clinical Consultant for the day.

On AMU, they will review in-patients independently and formulate management plans, and discuss all cases with the Consultant. They will be expected to take on a training role to more junior resident doctor staff.
In SDEC (Ambulatory Care), they will review patients with urgent clinical needs and engage in safe discharge and follow up planning.
During the scheduled Self-Directed Time (SDT), this is time for appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This can be undertaken on site or by working from home.

This post is not formally recognised for training but applicants may wish to keep a portfolio during their fellowship that can be used as evidence of 6 months experience in acute/general medicine. Also, applicants holding a National Training Number (NTN) can apply for OOP using the recognised approval processes. The role is also open to applicants both with and without an NTN.
