What skills and experience we're looking for

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families? Medina House School are seeking a committed and compassionate Home-School Link Worker to join our team and play a vital role in strengthening the relationship between home and school.

As a Home-School Link Worker, you will support children and families facing barriers to learning, attendance, or well-being. You will work closely with families, school staff, and external agencies to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed and thrive both at home and in school.

Key responsibilities

• To build positive, supportive relationships with families, promoting parental engagement in their child’s education.
• Working closely with school staff to identify pupils who may benefit from additional support.
• To provide early intervention to address issues affecting attendance, behaviour, or emotional well-being.
• To signpost families to relevant support services and act as a liaison between the school and external agencies.
• To support safeguarding procedures and attend multi-agency meetings as required.
• To deliver or coordinate parenting programmes, drop-in sessions, or workshops for families.
• To maintain accurate and confidential records of support provided.

Key experience required

• Experience working with children, young people, and families in an educational, social care, or community setting.
• A strong understanding of the challenges facing families and how these can impact a child’s education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Flexibility, empathy, and a non-judgemental approach.
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., in social work, education, youth work, or family support) are desirable but not essential.
