What skills and experience we're looking for
We seek to appoint a Pastoral Officer/Assistant House Lead to join an established team who support students with their behaviour and attendance and, in particular, to support students to reflect on their behaviour before reintegrating them back into lessons.
The ideal candidate will have a commanding presence, be firm, fair and consistent, and be able to relate to young people in a calm, supportive and positive manner.
The successful candidate will find the school is a purposeful and supportive learning environment, with a strong team of staff who are highly committed to raising student achievement. Each Pastoral Officer is linked to a House and works alongside the House Lead to support and motivate students in their House. We would also be interested in anyone with experience of running a remove or isolation room.
This is a permanent post. The hours of duty are 8.00am–3.45pm Mon, Wed Fri and 8.00am–4.00pm Tue and Thurs, including an unpaid break of 30 minutes each day, term time plus training days.
The successful candidate should:
• Have a high standard of education
• Be motivated to work with children and young people to ensure they are successful
• Have a commitment to, and belief in, the equal value of all students
• Be able to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
• Have emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours and attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline
• Be able to raise self-esteem and expectations of children and young people
• Have knowledge and experience of relevant highly effective behaviour management strategies for children and young people and the ability to use them effectively
• Highly skilled in a range of assertive discipline strategies
• Efficient and organised: independent and effective in time management
• Have strong ICT skills, especially in the use of Word and Excel
• Have an appropriate understanding of data protection, security and confidentiality awareness
• Have strong skills in data analysis
