Summary

Testing Manager / Authorised Person (AP)

Salary: £70,000 – £73,000 + package

Role Overview

The Testing Manager / AP is the senior site-based tester responsible for managing day-to-day testing, inspection, and commissioning activities on large LV projects. The role oversees test operatives, manages permits and isolations, ensures compliance with PME ESSW and BS7671, and maintains accurate testing documentation. This position is central to delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality installations.

Key Responsibilities

Team & Site Leadership

• Supervise all site-based test operatives and coordinate testing activities.
• Plan testing areas, allocate tasks, and support specialist subcontractors.

Testing, Inspection & Compliance

• Carry out LV testing and commissioning in accordance with PME procedures, PME ESSW, BS7671, and GN3.
• Inspect LV installations, switchgear, and installation methods for compliance.
• Verify protective devices, torque settings, and emergency lighting systems.
• Review test results, escalate out-of-parameter findings, and support client witnessing.

Documentation, QA & Records

• Maintain and update the PME electronic test folder (input within 24 hours).
• Update testing schedules, DB check sheets, installation reports, snag lists, schematics, and Gateway tracker records.
• Issue inspection reports, snags, and non-compliance items, ensuring close-out.
• Provide documentation for NICEIC certification and support handover packs.

PME / AP Duties

• Manage PME Key Procedure, PME Permits, LOTO, and isolation/power-on processes.
• Ensure security of areas under PME control.
• Check calibration of test instruments and test leads.

Coordination & Client Support

• Attend commissioning meetings as required.
• Provide client training and technical support when directed.

General

• Ensure all testing activities are carried out safely, accurately, and to programme.
• Work flexibly, including out-of-hours when necessary to meet project deadlines.
