Salary: £31,000 per annum
Location: Exeter Depot, Cullompton, EX15 3DA
Hours: Full-time, Tuesday to Saturday, 01:00 – 09:30
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Responsible For: All depot staff and operational activity
Holiday: 28 days inclusive of Bank Holidays, plus one additional day for every full year of continuous service (up to five extra days)

Role Overview
As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for the effective running of our Exeter depot during the early-morning operation. You’ll oversee routing, warehouse activity, driver dispatch, compliance, and service performance across multiple contracts. This is a hands-on operational role where you will lead by example, ensure high standards, and maintain a safe, efficient, and well-organised workplace.
What You’ll Be Doing
Operational Management
• Plan and optimise delivery routes across multiple customer contracts.
• Manage the warehouse floor to ensure a smooth, timely inbound sort and dispatch.
• Lead the shift team, ensuring all tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
• Maintain tight cost control across labour, fleet, and resource use.
• Monitor ETA performance and ensure drivers follow agreed routing.
• Oversee the safe loading and unloading of vehicles.
Driver & Fleet Compliance
• Deliver driver briefings, education, and ongoing training.
• Ensure daily vehicle checks and defect reporting are completed accurately.
• Allocate vehicles effectively and resolve vehicle defects.
• Monitor FleetCheck completion and maintain forklift compliance and defect management.
• Support driver performance management, including SPR, standards, and behaviour.
Service Quality & Accountability
• Ensure every item is scanned into the depot each morning.
• Investigate parcel discrepancies, damages, and items left in the depot.
• Ensure carded delivery processes and POD requirements are followed.
• Produce accurate AM reports and driver dispatch reporting.
• Manage RTI reporting, KPI performance, and service-level compliance.
People Leadership
• Lead and support all early-morning staff within the depot.
• Monitor staff appearance and adherence to standards.
• Handle first-line people management, including absence management and performance conversations.
• Respond to depot and driver queries quickly and professionally.
Health & Safety
• Maintain a safe working environment at all times.
• Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed, including accident and incident reporting.
• Promote a culture where safety, compliance, and professionalism are prioritised.

• Proven leadership experience with the ability to deliver and maintain strong operational performance.
• Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to present information and negotiate effectively.
• Good knowledge of the local area (desirable but not essential).
• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
• A pragmatic, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving and people management.
• Flexibility to work the required shift pattern and support operational needs.
