A consumer advice organisation in London are looking for two locums to assist on a remote working basis starting as soon as you are able:

Bank Fraud & Ombudsman Claims Locum

You will need to be able to manage complex cases involving Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud, liaise with banks, regulators, and the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), and deliver fair and timely outcomes for consumers. The successful candidate will take ownership of their caseload, provide high-quality legal advice, contribute to strategic decision-making, and help shape the organisation's innovative approach to financial justice.

This will be an ongoing role and likely to be around 2-3 days per week. The work can be carried out remotely.
Key Responsibilities:

- Own and advance a caseload involving bank fraud and financial mis-selling complaints.
- Provide legal advice and representation to clients, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Conduct detailed investigations, prepare robust legal arguments, and manage supporting documentation.
- Submit and manage referrals via the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
- Negotiate redress with banks and regulators, with reference to statutory and common law principles.
- Provide clear, empathetic, and professional client communication throughout the case lifecycle.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare complete case files using case management systems.
- Support business development and contribute strategic insights for continuous improvement within the department.
Essential:

- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England & Wales (with a current practising certificate).
- Significant experience handling bank fraud or financial services disputes, particularly APP fraud.
- Strong understanding of the Financial Ombudsman Service and its referral/resolution processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex caseloads under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal advocacy skills, with strong drafting ability.
- High attention to detail and organisational capability.
- Empathy and resilience when working with clients affected by financial crime.
Desirable:

- Experience engaging with regulators such as the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR), Financial Ombudsman (FOS) or Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
- Knowledge of civil litigation procedure (e.g. claims in negligence, misrepresentation, breach of duty).
- Familiarity with legal or case management systems and e-disclosure tools.
- Previous experience working within the Financial Ombudsman Service, or in financial services litigation.
- Interest in financial regulation, fintech, and consumer protection law.

Financial Mis-selling/Motor Vehicle Finance Locum

You will be a commercially astute Solicitor capable of leading the legal components of the organisation's Motor Finance Claims within the Financial Mis-Selling Department. You will work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that the team's work is both legally robust and operationally efficient, while also collaborating with the COLP to maintain high professional and compliance standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the legal quality, accuracy, and consistency of the organisation's claims while contributing to the continuous improvement of their approach to financial mis-selling litigation.

This will be for 3-6 months and is likely to be around 2-3 days per week. The work can be carried out remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead on the legal aspects of motor finance mis-selling claims, ensuring strategies and case handling meet professional and regulatory standards.
- Review and refine legal documentation, pleadings, and advice to ensure quality and compliance.
- Provide legal guidance and oversight to the operations team on complex or technical matters.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to align legal processes with efficient case handling and client outcomes.
- Work with the COLP to ensure adherence to SRA and FCA regulatory requirements and risk management practices.
- Support the development and implementation of best practices, workflows, and templates to enhance the department's effectiveness.
- Stay up to date on legal, regulatory, and industry developments relevant to financial mis-selling and consumer credit.
- Apply strong commercial awareness to ensure legal activities support the firm's operational and financial goals.

Key Requirements:

- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) and SRA-registered.
- Experience in financial mis-selling, motor finance, consumer protection, or litigation desirable.
- Understanding of FCA-regulated activity and consumer redress processes advantageous.
- Strong drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a pragmatic and commercially minded approach.
- Ability to work effectively across legal, operational, and compliance functions.
