About You
Make a Better Future for People and the Environment in Mining Areas
Are you ready to lead the way in protecting communities and the environment from the impacts of legacy mining? The Mining Remediation Authority is looking for a dynamic, strategic leader to head up our Environment Operations team.
As our new Head of Environment Operations, you’ll be at the forefront of managing our operational assets, ensuring they deliver maximum social and environmental value, alongside value for the taxpayer. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, innovation teams, and service delivery colleagues to drive continuous improvement and champion new ideas.
What We’re Looking For

- Significant experience in contract management within operational, engineering, or environmental sectors.
- Strong knowledge of government water and environmental legislation and policy.
- Proven track record in budget management, strategy development, and delivery.
- Exceptional leadership and team development skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
- Outstanding written, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage a high-volume, detailed workload and prioritise effectively.
- Willingness to undertake field visits to remote sites, occasional overnight stays, and use of PPE.
- Valid UK Driving Licence.

About The Role
What You’ll Be Doing

- Leading the Contracts team and working with service providers and subject matter experts to deliver robust, cost-effective programmes that protect people and the environment.
- Driving performance, efficiency, and innovation in long-term service contracts, with a strong focus on health, safety, wellbeing, and environmental compliance.
- Shaping strategic plans that address climate change, sustainability, mine water heat, water scarcity, and key government policy.
- Collaborating with project delivery teams to develop new assets and refurbish existing ones, ensuring alignment with our corporate risk appetite.
- Leading responses to environmental incidents, managing investigations and reputational risks.
- Building networks with senior stakeholders, including regulators and strategic partners.
- Providing regular updates to the Executive team, committees, and Board on objectives, risks, and performance.
- Championing continuous improvement and forward strategy as part of the Environment Directorate’s senior leadership team.
