We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

This role is responsible for ensuring Leigh Sports Village remains a safe, compliant, and well-managed venue for sport and events. You will oversee all facilities, maintenance and compliance systems, ensuring policies, schedules and documentation meet legal and industry standards. You will lead the facilities team, coordinate contractors, support capital improvements, and ensure the site is prepared ahead of matches and major events. You will report directly to the Operations Director, and work closely with internal and external partners, using your professional judgment to maintain high standards and support the continued development and modernisation of the campus.

About you:

You will bring proven facilities management experience from a busy, multi-use venue. You will be organised, structured and highly reliable in managing compliance, auditing, contracts and reporting. You’ll have strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation, and the confidence to lead a team and set clear standards. You will communicate well, be solution-focused, able to manage priorities, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment where no two weeks are the same. You will take pride in supporting elite sport, community sport, education and events all in one location, while maintaining a strong safety culture.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

Leigh Sports Village is a unique campus that combines elite sport, community use, education, leisure and major events. We host professional rugby league and elite women’s football, as well as national tournaments and large concerts. Our environment is diverse, ambitious and forward-thinking. You will join a supportive leadership team, at an exciting point where we are planning major improvements for the next decade. We offer public sector benefits, a modern working culture, and the chance to help shape a landmark site.
Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community.
