What you’ll be doing
This role will see you working with primary and secondary schools, colleges, and universities to deliver curriculum-linked activities that will increase students understanding of nature and the environment.
In addition, you will be responsible for leading outdoor activities such as hill-walking, rock climbing, raft building, snorkelling, bushcraft and all aspects of team challenges.
Your day to day will include developing, planning, and delivering learning programmes in outdoor teaching sites. This will involve guiding groups of all abilities in the local environment, ensuring you always have the health and safety of the group in mind.
When you are not working in the field, you will also be happy to contribute to other aspects of working in a busy education centre. This is a very active role, some weeks will be long and tiring, but our tutors find this work very rewarding, and we promise you will too!

Where you’ll be based
The Field Studies Council Millport centre is situated on the Isle of Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. Surrounded by nature, purpose-built teaching spaces, and comfortable accommodation with sea views, the centre offers an inspiring environment to lead, learn, and deliver engaging outdoor education. Its eco-friendly design and access to a Research Vessel allow staff and students to explore the marine environment in unique ways.

Who we’re looking for
You’ll have a degree in biology or a closely related subject, along with a Mountain Leader, Paddlesport Leader, or Rock Climbing Instructor qualification. In addition, you will have:
