Automation No.3

Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for a full-time, experienced Automation No.3 on the London production of STRANGER THINGS: THE FIRST SHADOW.

Written by Kate Trefry, an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry, directed by Stephen Daldry, co-directed by Justin Martin for the Phoenix Theatre and produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions.

Candidates will require relevant hands-on professional theatre experience in automation, the ability to work under pressure and within a team, and good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong organisational and time management qualities.

Responsibilities include the maintenance and operation of the automation equipment for the production, overseeing automation operation, and working within a team to ensure that the show’s automation requirements remain true to the original concept. Candidates must have a minimum of one year working in automation.

Experience on a large scale production is desired and any candidate must be highly organised with good communication skills. This would suit an established auto 3 or 4 looking to progress, or an Auto 2 looking at working on larger scale productions. Knowledge of STS would be useful and Ability to climb (Work Positioning/Work restraint) a bonus.

Start Date: 1st December 2025

Please Note: All applicants must be able to commit to the full contract and must have the right to work in the UK.

Job Location: West End London

Contract Type: Fixed term until December 2026, then the contract will be rolling.

Salary: Weekly rate as per SOLT/BECTU Agreement.

Weekly Hours: 6 day working weeks (Tuesday to Sunday); 8 shows per week plus maintenance and understudy calls.
