Job Purpose
To provide safe, reliable, and caring assistance to passengers—primarily
children, young people, and vulnerable adults—who use Shropshire Council’s transport services. The Passenger Assistant ensures passengers are collected and transported safely to and from designated locations such as schools, day centers, or residential facilities.
Responsibilities
Accompany passengers on council-operated or contracted transport, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being throughout the journey.
Assist passengers when boarding and leaving the vehicle, ensuring appropriate use of seat belts, harnesses, or other safety equipment.
Provide help with mobility aids, wheelchairs, or other equipment as required.
Maintain awareness of individual passenger needs and respond appropriately in emergencies or incidents.
Communicate effectively and courteously with passengers, parents, carers, drivers, and staff.
Job Requirements
Experience of working with children, older people, or vulnerable adults (paid or voluntary).
Understanding of safeguarding principles and ability to act appropriately in sensitive situations.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional under pressure.
Reliable and punctual, with a responsible attitude toward passenger safety.
