Environmental Compliance Manager
Location: Home-based / National (extensive travel)
Reports to: HSE Director
Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 + car allowance
Are you an experienced environmental compliance professional ready to make a national impact?
We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager to ensure full environmental compliance across all Group operations, acting as
the central expert on environmental regulation and permitting.
This is a compliance-focused role — it is not an ESG or sustainability role. Your responsibility will be to ensure adherence to
environmental legislation, permit conditions, trade effluent consents, and other statutory requirements, providing guidance,
oversight, and assurance across the business. The role is home-based but requires extensive travel to sites nationwide.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct and oversee environmental audits, compliance assessments, and incident investigations across all sites.
* Manage and maintain environmental data trackers, ensuring accuracy and regulatory reporting.
* Act as primary contact for environmental regulators, including the Environment Agency and water authorities.
* Lead permit-related activities, trade effluent management, and compliance reporting across multiple sites.
* Maintain and develop the Group Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001.
* Deliver environmental training, inductions, and toolbox talks to upskill site teams.
* Track emerging environmental legislation and ensure operational compliance across all sites.
* Oversee COSHH and hazardous substances registers, contributing to risk management and emergency planning.
* Provide assurance, reporting, and updates to senior stakeholders, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
* Minimum 7 years’ environmental compliance experience, ideally in regulated manufacturing or industrial operations.
* Degree or Level 6 qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
* Expert knowledge of UK environmental legislation, including Environmental Permitting Regulations, trade effluent, waste,
hazardous substances, and F-gas.
* Proven experience managing permits, consents, regulatory reporting, audits, and investigations across multiple sites.
* Experience developing and maintaining ISO 14001 or equivalent Environmental Management Systems.
* Strong analytical, reporting, and data management skills.
* Excellent communicator, able to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
* Proactive and forward-thinking, able to interpret and implement emerging regulatory requirements.
This is a strategic, national role focused entirely on environmental compliance, offering the chance to make a real difference in
risk management and regulatory assurance across a multi-site business.
