The salary is £14.08 per hour
The hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week – Monday – Friday 52 weeks per year.
Amey manages facilities for 42 Northampton schools, ensuring safe, clean, and compliant learning environments for students and teachers. We deliver 24/7 services with minimal disruption, working in partnership to maintain high standards
You will be responsible for:
Ensuring the health, safety, and security of the school buildings and site, including regular security checks, risk assessments, and fire safety management.
Overseeing contractors and agency staff, ensuring compliance with Amey’s Zero Code Policies & Procedures, and that all required documentation (DBS, induction, etc.) is up to date.
Managing and monitoring health and safety checks (e.g., fire alarms, legionella testing), reporting incidents, and conducting investigations as required.
Supervising Caretaking and Cleaning staff, including recruitment, induction, development, and training, and liaising with the Cleaning Supervisor for ongoing training needs.
Supporting the Facilities Manager with budget management, purchasing premises-related equipment and supplies, and managing the letting function for out-of-hours activities.
Overseeing the operation and maintenance of site systems (heating, cooling, lighting, security) and ensuring proactive/reactive works are managed within KPIs.
Acting as the first point of contact for the school, maintaining professional communication, monitoring the email inbox, and conducting weekly meetings with the school’s main representative.
Ensuring all site folders, notice boards, and records (e.g., staff sickness/absence) are up to date and reporting to the Facilities Manager as needed.
Attending relevant meetings (prestart, service review, lifecycle/project updates) and following escalation processes for emergencies.
Maintaining a good knowledge of Microsoft Suite/Concept (tablets & phones) and completing relevant Amey documentation to a high standard.
Supporting the overall smooth running of the school, including maintenance and cleaning tasks as required, and undertaking any reasonable management requests.
We want to hear from you if you are:
Knowledge and previous experience in practical DIY skills for minor repair.
Good Team Player.
Flexible with shift work.
Good at developing strong working relationships with on-site client and employees.
This role will also support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
