Location: Guildhall 2, London Borough of Sutton
Start Date: 20 October 2025
End Date: 13 July 2026
Hours: 36 per week | Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00
Rate: £18.92 PAYE | £24.63 Umbrella

About the Role
The London Borough of Sutton is seeking a proactive and experienced Rent Arrears Recovery Officer to join their Financial Services team. This is a key frontline role focused on managing rent arrears, supporting tenants, and enforcing recovery procedures in line with legal frameworks and council policy.
You’ll be responsible for:
Managing all stages of the rent arrears process, including Pre-Court Protocol
Representing the Council at Possession Hearings and preparing eviction authorisation reports
Submitting possession cases via the Courts PCOL system
Conducting pre-eviction interviews and applying for eviction warrants
Visiting customers in their homes and other locations to resolve arrears issues
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for someone with:
✅ Minimum 2 years’ experience in rent arrears recovery and enforcement
✅ Strong understanding of Housing Benefit, Universal Credit, and Welfare Benefits legislation
✅ Experience using Universal Housing and Rent Sense systems
✅ Advanced knowledge of court processes and possession proceedings
✅ Excellent customer care and communication skills
✅ GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English
