Salary: Up to £30,400
Our client, a well established day nursery in Surbiton, is looking for a passionate and experienced Room Leader to join their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Early Years professional ready to take the next step in leadership, helping to shape a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children aged 2–3 years.
As Room Leader, you’ll play a key role in guiding a dedicated team of practitioners, ensuring high standards of care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a supportive, forward-thinking setting that values both staff wellbeing and children’s development.
What We’re Looking For
- Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years/Childcare (or equivalent)
- Previous experience working as a Room Leader, Nursery Nurse, or Senior Practitioner
- Strong understanding of EYFS and safeguarding requirements
- Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a team
- Excellent communication skills and a warm, approachable manner
- Commitment to inclusive practice and supporting every child’s individual needs

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the daily operation of the 2–3 year room, maintaining exceptional standards of childcare and learning
- Support, mentor, and supervise playroom staff, fostering professional growth and teamwork
- Ensure children are allocated appropriately to key carers and that the key carer system is implemented effectively
- Promote a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment aligned with EYFS requirements
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers, providing professional and supportive feedback
- Encourage best practice in safeguarding, wellbeing, and child development across the team
- Act as a role model, inspiring colleagues and contributing to a positive nursery culture
