ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Purpose of the job: To support and inspire young people with special educational needs (SEN) by delivering engaging, practical mechanic sessions. The role involves preparing and maintaining workshop materials and equipment, ensuring safe practices, and acting as a mentor who encourages confidence, skills development, and independence.

Role: Support the operational team in the delivery of sessions. Lead sessions where appropriate ensuring correct staff ratios for all groups during the day.

Oarsome Chance work in the Gosport and Portsmouth area of Hampshire and we are searching for a skilled professional with Mechanics background. The ideal person for this role would need to be passionate, resilient, and able to work in an inclusive manner, to meet the needs of the young people

The successful candidate will pass on skills that can be used in a future career and get the young people excited about learning a practical trade in line with the ethos of Oarsome Chance.
The board of Trustees are passionate about the project and providing the best learning for the students. There are a variety of needs at Oarsome Chance. We are focused on personalising the students learning so they are interested in a range of areas.

This role will be based out of Fort Widley

Key Responsibilities
● Deliver high-quality mechanic sessions tailored to the needs and abilities of young people with SEN, emotional and social needs.
● Prepare, maintain, and monitor learning materials, tools, equipment, and workshop spaces to ensure they are safe and ready for use.
● Promote and model safe practices in the use of all equipment, tools, and spaces by students and staff.
● Support young people in developing confidence, resilience, and employability skills through hands-on learning.
● Work collaboratively with colleagues to design and adapt activities to suit a range of learning needs.
● Contribute to the positive ethos and inclusive culture of the organisation.
● Undertake any training necessary to enhance skills and meet the needs of the role.
● While mechanics will be the primary focus, there may also be opportunities to contribute to the delivery of other curriculum areas as required.

Skills and Experience

● Practical, hands-on experience with a variety of motor vehicles, gained through industry work or personal projects.
● Good working knowledge of the tools, materials, and processes used in the Automotive Industry.
● Experience of working with young people (desirable, but training will be provided).
● Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, working with young people with SEN.
