About the Role
Are you studying Electronic Engineering or a similar subject? Do you want to stretch your technical skills and work with cutting-edge chip design tools? If so, this is a fantastic opportunity to join our team of specialist design methodology engineers and contribute to microelectronics research across Europe.

This placement offers hands-on experience in a wide range of areas including analogue and digital circuit design, FPGA systems, and device modelling. You’ll be part of a collaborative team solving complex engineering challenges and supporting projects across Europe.

Key Responsibilities
- Support European-wide microelectronics projects
- Work on analogue, digital, FPGA and device-level design challenges
- Apply your skills to real-world problems using advanced design tools
- Demonstrate initiative and contribute to team-based problem solving
- Gain experience in chip design, modelling and simulation
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists across STFC


Person Specification

Essential Criteria (assessed via shortlisting and/or interview):
✔Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree and returning to complete your studies after the placement (S)
✔Required or have requested to undertake an industrial placement year (S)
✔Eligible to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement (S)
✔Available to start in summer 2026 (S)
✔Minimum of three A-levels at grade C or above, including Mathematics or equivalent qualifications (S)
✔Excellent understanding of basic electronic circuit principles (S&I)
✔Genuine interest in microelectronics and chip design tools (S&I)
✔Desire to improve your understanding and support others in learning (S&I)
✔Conscientious, reliable and able to communicate technical information clearly in English (S&I)
