The post will be based at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust where the successful candidate will join the expanding Acute Medicine team, with opportunities for learning and development under the supervision of the consultant team. The majority of training will be on-the-job with close involvement of the consultants. The department has a weekly teaching session and there will be opportunity to develop as an educator through support and training of junior colleagues. There is a purpose-designed teaching programme for IMT3 and SCF covering generic skills and all the more challenging Acute Medical Presentations.Junior Doctors are encouraged and supported to take part in clinical case presentations. In addition we offer dedicated patient safety lectures and practical training on procedures such as ultrasound guided CVP insertion. We have a state-of-the-art Simulation department who provide sessions both to doctors in training and those in Clinical Fellowships, and our Acute Medicine Consultants also provide monthly Simulation sessions. The full programme provides junior doctors with a comprehensive training package. This post will give excellent opportunities, To participate in the future development of acute medicine services for the Trust To provide strong leadership for the acute medical ward junior staff To assist in providing acute care services to the Trust. To provide input into medical student education for Oxford and Leicester undergraduates on the diagnosis and management of medical emergencies To support and provide teaching and training of junior medical staff, post graduate training and nurse training on the unit To develop your career in Acute Medicine To develop protocols within the acute medicine department and the interface with A&E for consistent safe and good quality care for acute admissions To ensure good practice by regular audit and review of incidents with clinical team and take forward lessons learnt To link in with the directorate clinical governance meetings and contribute to lessons learnt from incidents and complaints Please see job description for full details
