We are excited to offer an opportunity for a band 3 Generic Therapy Assistant post within our well established and friendly Emergency Department and Frailty Therapy Team at Royal Derby Hospital. We are looking for a caring, well-motivated individual to join our multidisciplinary team, and work to provide a 7 day service across the front door services, as well as 2 General Medicine wards we currently cover.

With the majority of our caseload working within Frailty, we are looking for a passionate applicant who has interest in working with Elderly people. Due to the nature of front door services, the successful candidate will have lots of opportunity to work with a very wide range of patients and medical conditions, such as Dementia, Falls, Neurological, respiratory and Musculoskeletal conditions. You will be supported in developing your therapy skills and knowledge, and included in team meetings, in service trainings and service developments.

Must be able to motivate patients to comply with treatment programmes where there may be significant barriers to understanding and compliance. Your communication will require use of a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools in order to gain a successful treatment outcome.Must maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date treatment notes in line with legal and departmental requirements for each patient.

You will be working under the supervision of qualified Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff to undertake a variety of tasks assisting in the gaining of information, supporting assessments and treatment of patients activities of daily living, functional, mobility and respiratory problems. Tasks for this role may include; assisting the patients with functional activities of daily living, including dressing/undressing, domestic activities, supervising exercises, preparing patients for treatment, assisting patients to increase their independence by using daily living aids.

There will be a number of non-clinical duties such as clerical or housekeeping tasks, which aids the efficient running of the department. You will be an excellent communicator, team player and have a basic working knowledge of IT packages.

To be aware at all times of the needs of patients during illness or disability and to promote and encourage independence and restoration of function. To be able to recognise the need to refer back to the Therapist, identifying contra-indications to treatment and signs of deterioration and communicate with the Therapists accordingly. To be able to communicate effectively with patients to gain informed consent to treatment. Assess patient’s understanding of treatment proposals and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
