Clinical Technical Treatment planning Produce complex treatment plans, carrying out the associated dosimetry calculations in accordance with agreed protocols and clinical prescription. Import patient images from other computer/imaging systems into the treatment planning system when required. Perform image registration of diagnostic and planning CT datasets. Outline critical patient organs and planning contours within scope of local competence and clinical protocols. Produce and review written protocols for planning processes, as part of the Quality System. Participate in the checking of treatment plans under a defined competency framework. Mould Room Liaise with pre-treatment radiography and medical staff to attend pre-treatment planning appointments for patients. Construct customised immobilisation and shielding devices for patients prescribed radiotherapy treatment. A high standard of accuracy and dexterity is required as these devices are used to align and conform radiation beams. Advise clinical staff on treatment options and their impact on patients and assist in the choice of suitable fixation devices to immobilise patients during treatment. Repair and modify such immobilisation shells or masks as required. Design and construct other individual treatment aids such as wax blocks, mouth bites, lead or low melting point alloy blocks, and electron cut-outs, using a range of manufacturing techniques, liaising with medical, radiographic and medical physics colleagues. Produce written protocols for mould room techniques and practices, as part of the Quality System. Liaise with staff in Radiotherapy to ensure these protocols meet clinical needs. Quality Assurance Participate in the routine quality assurance programme for the radiotherapy treatment equipment, assisting the QA physicists. Perform patient specific quality assurance measurements as required. Participate in routine quality assurance of treatment planning systems according to schedule. Test stability and leakage of tertiary radiotherapy dose measuring equipment requiring high precision measurements. Participate in clinical and quality audits as determined by Heads of section. Managerial Prioritise and manage own specialist workload to meet agreed outcomes. Keep careful records of all work performed and other appropriate records as required for pre-treatment, mould room, dosimetry, quality assurance and statistical purposes. Monitor stock levels and informing Heads of section of any requirements to ensure that service delivery is maintained. Maintain COSHH records for the Radiotherapy and Radiotherapy Physics departments. Attend clinical planning meetings as appropriate. Professional The post holder is professionally accountable to the Head of Radiotherapy Physics. Participate in the appropriate Continuing Professional Development scheme. Attend suitable seminars and courses as part of training and personal development and to further the work of the department. Ensure all activities are carried out within a quality framework and conform to Statutory Regulations, approved Codes of Practice and Local Safety Rules. Teaching, training and research Provide practical instruction in all techniques associated with the post to placement students and trainees. Demonstrate techniques to treatment planning staff and physicists as required. Train other staff in mould room techniques. Assist with the development of new techniques, in conjunction with other staff groups. Participate in research and development and clinical trials. Miscellaneous Ensure compliance with accredited Quality Systems in the areas of work for which the post-holder carries responsibility. Participate in the development of quality systems. Report incidents, faults, errors and hazards in accordance with departmental protocols. Act as an operator under the definitions of IR(ME)R 2017 in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and work instructions.
