Job Opportunity: Court Usher - Willesden Magistrates' Court (HMCTS)

We are excited to be recruiting for a Court Usher to join our client, HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) - an agency of the Ministry of Justice. This is a full-time, temporary role based primarily at Willesden Magistrates' Court, with occasional duties at Uxbridge and Ealing Magistrates' Courts.

Contract: 6 months (with potential extension)
Salary: £14.75 per hour (plus holiday entitlement and pension scheme)
Hours: 37 per week, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm (some flexibility required)

Location: Primarily based at Willesden Magistrates' Court, but you may also be required to support at Ealing and Uxbridge Magistrates' Courts for administrative duties.

About the Role

As a Court Usher (List Caller), you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of daily court proceedings. You'll be responsible for managing court lists, assisting court users, and supporting the judiciary and legal professionals throughout hearings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage daily court lists, ensuring accuracy.

  • Call parties into the courtroom as directed and maintain smooth case flow.

  • Keep court users informed of estimated timings and case progress.

  • Liaise with legal representatives, interpreters, and support services.

  • Assist with courtroom setup and ensure documents are in place.

  • Support administrative tasks such as post opening, case entry, and handling telephone/counter queries.

  • Provide excellent customer service to all court users.

Skills & Experience Required
  • Professionalism: Ability to stay calm and proactive in a busy environment.

  • Organisation: Strong time management and prioritisation skills.

  • Communication: Clear, confident, and professional both in writing and face-to-face. Public speaking required

  • Self-Motivation: Able to work independently with initiative.

  • Administration: Previous experience in admin or data entry is desirable.

Additional Information
  • A DBS check is required (processed by us).

  • Successful applicants must pass security clearance (approx. 2-3 weeks).
