Clinical Duties and Patient Care The Lead Gynae Nurse will demonstrate advanced Gynaecology specialist knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of patients throughout their pathway with a focus on faster diagnosis of 2ww pathway and cervical cancer screening patients within NHS Cervical Screening Programme (CSP) guidelines and protocols. The Lead Gynae Nurse will work as part of the Gynaecology Team, working within the scope of practice. They will exercise advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion, and decision making in clinical care. The Lead Gynae Nurse will take responsibility for leading and strategically developing the Gynaecology Cancer Service and manage the faster diagnosis 2ww service for suspected Gynaecology cancers in collaboration with cancer services and to support delivery of the faster diagnosis standard for the Trust. The Lead Gynae Nurse will be expected to: Provide expert clinical practice within the field of Gynaecology The majority of the role will be spent in providing direct clinical care and consultation for patients within Gynaecology Cancer and benign cancer service at both the diagnostic and treatment stage of their pathway. This involves the utilisation of highly developed specialist knowledge, advanced clinical and practical skills critical thinking, and expert decision-making skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for this cohort of patients. To be responsible for a cohort of patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, providing specialist guidance, advice, support, and counselling (malignant and benign disease). The area of clinical practice includes: Triage and assessment of 2ww faster diagnosis referrals and sequential ordering of diagnostic investigations. Consultation and decision making for patients referred/ presenting with suspected Gynaecology cancer symptoms. Advanced communication skills to communicate complex information to patients and /carers including communication of cancer diagnosis and/or a ruling out of cancer. Professional responsibilities Act as an advocate for patients, carers, the service and organisation at all times at local, regional and national level. Share values, courageously speaking up for service users and staff, listening to them, acting on what is important to them. Maintain professional registration and work within NMC standards and guidance at all times. Management and leadership responsibilities Ensure a healthy, safe, and secure working environment, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate documentation, and reporting any concerns. Have managerial responsibility at a matron level of the team within the Gynaecology service. Act as a role model and demonstrate leadership within the clinical setting, imparting expert knowledge and high standards of clinical practice.
