Your new role
As an Investigating Officer, you will be responsible for conducting impartial, desk-based investigations into complaints against public bodies and elected representatives. You will also support broader systemic investigations into potential maladministration or injustice within public services. This role involves managing a diverse caseload, analysing complex information, conducting interviews, and producing high-quality written reports and recommendations.Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating complaints in line with relevant legislation and internal procedures
- Communicating effectively with complainants, public bodies, and stakeholders
- Managing competing priorities and meeting performance targets
- Conducting interviews and gathering evidence
- Drafting clear, evidence-based reports and briefings
- Monitoring compliance with recommendations
- Representing the organisation at external events and maintaining professional relationships
What you'll need to succeed
- A degree (or equivalent) with at least 2 years' relevant experience in evidence-based analysis and reporting OR at least 4 years' relevant experience without a degree
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Ability to interpret legislation, codes, and procedural guidance
- Excellent written communication and report-writing skills
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a complex caseload
- Empathy and resilience when handling challenging conversations
- Experience conducting investigative interviews
Desirable: - Knowledge of investigative practices and research techniques
