Salary: £25,905 - £26,111 (pro rata for part time and sessional
Hours: 27.5 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Leith Academy is recruiting a Pupil Support Assistant (PSA) to work in our Wellbeing Hub who will support young people transition from primary school, build social and communication skills and support positive destinations.

We are looking for a positive, good team player who will be committed to working with young people, especially those with additional support needs. Your days will be busy and physically active. Training opportunities to support you in working with our children and young people will be provided.

The post will involve building relationships of trust with children and their families. The PSA will be part of enhanced staffing within the Wellbeing Hub. The Hub is led by a Curriculum Leader. You will work alongside them and a Pupil Support Officer to support children with social and emotional needs to thrive in their mainstream school.

Conscientious, committed candidates with excellent inter-personal and communication skills are invited to apply.

Essential qualities:

  • Experience of working with young people aged 11 - 16, either 1:1 or in small groups
  • Adaptability and flexibility - ability to think on your feet and quickly and effectively respond to unexpected situations or challenges

  • Collaborating with others - ability to quickly form positive relationships with a range of stakeholders

The post will involve a wide range of duties including, but not limited to:

  • Working with school community partners to ensure the best outcomes for our young people
  • Supporting Teachers within a classroom setting

Please note that these posts have a mobility clause meaning there is a chance successful candidates could be moved to a different school in the future.

There are also opportunities to work in a holiday hub provision during the school holidays for successful candidates looking to work during the school holidays.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
