The Education Wellbeing Service (EWS) supports children, young people and their families working with schools, partners and families collaboratively to address barriers to school attendance. The EWS aim is to promote wellbeing and inclusion.

The service operates through 4 core functions; Consultation and Advice, Assessment and Intervention, Data for Improvement and Professional Learning including family education and wellbeing programmes. The EWS also has a responsibility to assist schools to implement the local authority Maximising School Attendance Policy, for supporting at key points of transition, Children Missing in Education, MARAC, EEI, Part-time Timetables and GRT, Refugee and Migrant families.

An Education Wellbeing Officer (EWO) will work within an EWS locality team to collaborate with schools and learning communities. EWOs will provide advice and support to schools using data to inform priority areas of work. EWOs will work with schools through the Attendance Lead, school staff and other agencies to co-construct collaborative approaches to enable families to "get the right support at the right time". EWOs offer targeted work with children, young people and families through GIRFEC as part of the team around the child. This includes attending meetings in schools, visiting family homes and supporting children, young people and their families in the community.

Previous experience of working with children, young people and families is essential. An EWO must have the ability to work with initiative and flexibility managing their time effectively, have strong communication skills to work within a locality team and as part of the EWS and uphold strong relationships between all partners. Experience our knowledge of working with GRT and or refugee and migrant families would be desirable.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
