The Role
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial operations and maintain accurate records of the company's financial activities. This role is key to ensuring the smooth running of our finance function, supporting informed decision-making at the director level.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and on time
Process invoices, receipts, payments, and expenses
Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and supplier accounts
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
Work closely with our external accountants to support month-end and year-end processes
Prepare and submit VAT returns and assist with other compliance requirements
Maintain accurate records and filing systems (digital and/or physical)
Generate regular financial reports for the directors, including cash flow summaries, aged debtors/creditors, and P&L snapshots
Assist with budget tracking, forecasting, and identifying any variances
Support ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by the Director
Person Specification
Essential:
Proven experience in a bookkeeping or finance assistant role
Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
Proficiency with accounting software (Xero)
Strong Excel and data entry skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively
Good communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with accountants, suppliers, and
internal team members
Desirable:
Experience in a small business or creative industry setting
AAT association of accounting technicians) qualification (or working towards)
Familiarity with preparing VAT returns and submitting via Making Tax Digital
