We are looking to recruit a pooled receptionist for Women & Children’s Services within the Paediatric Department.
This is a permanent contract, which will require some flexibility in working pattern to ensure the service is covered 7 days a week and could involve working any time in a 24 hour period. You will be required to support all our reception teams across the Division which will include the wards and outpatient reception areas.
The post holder will provide a high-quality reception and support service within an inpatient and outpatient setting and as such, will need to be able to communicate well with patients and their relatives, the public and a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust. To provide a support service to the technical staff, a versatile approach is essential and the ability to cope with a large number of different tasks simultaneously is a prerequisite of this post. • To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
• To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within the department.
• To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
• To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern.
• To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate technical staff.
• To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness for clinical work.
• To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at the request of staff within the department.
• To maintain a record of the transfer of notes to and from the department.
• To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validate the patient pathway where appropriate.
• To liaise with Secretaries and other departments within the Trust as necessary to ensure case notes, X-rays and referrals are available for every patient attending an outpatient clinic. Liaise with external stakeholders to obtain referrals if necessary.
