The Ophthalmology department is based within the Outpatients West at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work at the Central Norwich Eye Clinic which is based in Grove Road, Norwich

An enthusiastic, motivated, hardworking and flexible person is required to assist with the smooth running of this busy department. The postholder will be expected to provide an efficient, friendly and welcoming service to the patients as they arrive at reception.

The successful candidate will: -
• Provide support to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
• Carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations and coordinating the various clinics within the department.
• Deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.

You will be trained to use the electronic patient system (PAS), along with all relevant administrative skills and will contribute to and support a very busy, committed and hard-working team.

The successful candidate will be expected to work on set days during the week (Monday to Friday) as well as occasional weekend / evening duties when required.

• To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
• To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within the department.
• To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
• To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern.
• To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate technical staff.
• To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness for clinical work.
• 7. To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at the request of staff within the department.
• To maintain a record of the transfer of notes to and from the department.
• To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validate the patient pathway where appropriate.
• To liaise with Secretaries and other departments within the Trust as necessary to ensure case notes, X-rays and referrals are available for every patient attending an outpatient clinic. Liaise with external stakeholders to obtain referrals if necessary.
