Crynodeb
The post holder will provide a wide range of clinical dental therapy, oral health promotion and preventative oral health care including all extended duties appropriate to a registered dental therapist, as requested by dentists within the service. The work will be carried out primarily within clinics but may include domiciliary care. Patients will include adults and children with additional needs, phobics and patients with learning and physical disabilities.
This post will be based at East Oxford Dental Clinic but there will be a requirement to work across different dental clinics depending on service need.
Main duties of the job- To provide a wide range of dental treatment to children and special care adults, appropriate to a registered dental therapist at the request of dentists working within Oxfordshire Community Dental Services (OCDS).
To provide dental treatment in line with the GDC scope of practice for dental therapists. - To produce and maintain accurate records of dental care, using computer systems within the service, complete appropriate NHS forms (eg FP17s forms) and assist with the data collection for service monitoring.
To actively participate in clinical audit programmes, peer review and clinical governance initiatives. - To develop good communication with all members of the dental teams and referring practitioners.
- Undertake training provided within OCDS and demonstrate commitment to continuing dental education.
- To assist in organisational duties to ensure the smooth running of the immediate clinic and extended dental services.

Person specification Knowledge Essential criteria- Knowledge of current and future changes in the dental profession
- Diploma/Degree in Dental Therapy
- Full registration with GDC as Dental Therapist
- Trained to undertake additional therapy duties
- Oral Health Promotion experience
- Good communication skills including clear and accurate written skills
- Good patient management skills
- Modern skills of dental therapy and hygiene
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Competency at treating patients with inhalation sedation
- Experience with using R4 computer software
- Experience of treating a wide range of adults and children
- Experience of dental therapy/dental hygiene in different settings
- Post qualification experience
- Experience of treating patients with additional needs
- Experience of NHS work
- Commitment to a high standard of patient care
- Able to work as a member of a team
- Patient, calm and able to work under pressure
- Ability to travel between sites and to regional meetings
