Summary

Principal Control Systems Engineer (full time)

Due to increased work, sustainable growth, and forward planning of retirement, we are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer, who specialises in control and automation, takes full ownership of their work and has immense pride in the quality of their output.

To be successful, you will be adept with the designing and drafting of industrial electrical control and automation systems – making customer requirements a reality. You will have a keen eye for detail and take pride in completing your work to a high standard.

Role:
The role will suit electrical design engineers, control system engineers or automation engineers, who can take a customer specification, from an email/enquiry/phone call through to a complete bill of materials and working diagrams for the production and testing teams. This role is to technically lead the engineering team and provide experience driven engineering input and guidance when required. Your knowledge and skillset will allow you to make decisions led by best practices, regulations, standards and respect to customers preferences. This is a stable position within a key function of the business. Being the customer focal point for their project, taking it from concept to completion. This role combines industrial electrical engineering, with control system design with project management and would suit an experienced engineer who enjoys variety and can apply engineering principles to solve technical solutions.

• Permanent, full-time, day shift, factory/office based
• Core hours: Monday-Friday (37hr week) – 07:30-16:00 Mon-Thurs. 07:30-12:30 Friday
• Visiting customer premises (reviews, surveys, kick-off meetings etc.) (<1 a month)

Main duties & Responsibilities:
• Ensure engineering output is technically and commercially correct and robust
• Ensuring engineering output satisfies the customer requirements and is on time
• Manage customer requirements
• Correct interpretation of customer requirements/specification/designs/drawings
• Creation and issuing of quotes to customers
• Liaising with customers and being the point of contact for quotes and their projects
• Liaising with the other Engineers to meet the workload demands and linking into production
• Responsible and accountable for the correct and safe low voltage control system designs
• Responsible and accountable for specification and bill of materials management
• Drafting/drawing of engineering drawings (schematics, layouts, harnesses etc.)
• Creation and control of engineering documentation (calculations, assessments, manuals,
specifications etc.), reports, technical documentation, and certifications (as required)
• Communicating and supporting with the wider teams for problem solving and projects
• Involvement in production meetings, commissioning assistance, site remote support
• Quality assure your work as you go and actively involve yourself with peer reviews
• Undertake site visits/inspections for projects/upgrades/modifications etc. as required
• Managing and prioritising engineering workload to meet deadlines and company requirements
• Responsible for keeping own knowledge and skills up to date and relevant
• Contribute to the continuous improvement cycle with your expertise and experience
• Following through on works to completion and not leaving loose-ends

Experience & Qualifications
Essential
o Experience of leading an engineering team and working well within an engineering team
o Minimum of 10-years industrial electrical control system design, including BOM management
o Minimum of 5-year industrial control panels – ideally heavy-industrial machinery
o Minimum of 10-years with an electrical CAD package, drafting/drawing
o Minimum of 10-years in a customer contact role
o Minimum of 10-years producing quotes
o Able to specify components to meet a design
o Can read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams
o Can create technical and engineering documentation – technical writing
o Machinery control system understanding and experience
o Can work with wiremen, commissioning engineers, site engineers, management and the wider
team
o IT literate and can use MS365 suite such as Outlook, Word and Excel
o Level 3 engineering or technical qualification or relevant experience
o Appropriate engineering/electrical experience and training

Desirable/Advantageous
o Professionally registered with the Engineering Council as IEng or CEng
o PLC software experience (writing and/or commissioning)
o Functional Safety experience/qualification/registration
o Mechanical engineering understanding and appreciation
o HNC/degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
