The Role
You will support parents who are experiencing drug and alcohol issues and whose children are subject to Child in Need or Child Protection Plans. You’ll deliver expert substance misuse interventions as part of a wider safeguarding strategy, working collaboratively with social workers and other multidisciplinary colleagues.
You’ll help bridge the gap between adult and children’s services, co-facilitate parenting groups, and contribute to safeguarding plans and recovery pathways using a trauma-informed, family-focused approach.
The role will require:
• Delivering specialist substance misuse support within children’s safeguarding teams.
• Working closely with professionals in domestic abuse, mental health, and social care.
• Liaising with i-access and Via’s community drug and alcohol teams to ensure continuity of care.
• Supporting and empowering families through group work and one-to-one interventions.
• Contributing to assessments and safeguarding plans with a holistic view of family wellbeing.
We’re looking for:
• a compassionate and driven professional with experience in:
• Substance misuse or recovery work
• Supporting vulnerable families
• Safeguarding children and adults
You understand the impact of addiction on family dynamics and are committed to helping parents make positive changes while protecting children from harm.
The Service
This role sits within Surrey’s Family Safeguarding Team (FST) – a nationally recognised, multi-disciplinary model that places adult-focused practitioners directly into children’s safeguarding teams. You’ll be part of a team that includes specialists in domestic abuse, mental health, and substance misuse, all working together to improve outcomes for children and families.
The substance misuse strand is delivered through i-access, an integrated treatment service run in partnership between Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust (SABP) and Via.
