We are seeking an outstanding Head of EAL and International Student Experience to join our community and lead our provision for international pupils. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and inspiring teacher to shape and drive the development of English as an Additional Language across the school whilst creating a transformative experience for students from a range of countries.

Our EAL (English as an Additional Language) Department at Clayesmore is run by highly specialised and experienced staff and offers students a fantastic opportunity to improve their English skills in a well-resourced and dedicated teaching environment.
We are looking for a Head of Department who can lead and be influential in the implementation and development of our International Student Programme at Clayesmore. Linking closely with the other departments at the school you will play a key role in the development of our pupils, ensuring a happy and successful education journey.
As Head of Department, you will:
● Lead and manage a dedicated department, ensuring outstanding teaching and learning.
● Assess new international students, organise suitable classes, and oversee timetabling for EAL provision.
● Support students with their academic progress, wellbeing, and integration into school life.
● Liaise closely with admissions, academic colleagues, parents and guardians.
● Prepare students for relevant exams and oversee entries.
● Take an active role in the wider life of Clayesmore through tutoring, co-curricular activities, games, and boarding duties.
● Play a key role to coordinate the cultural experience that pupils may enjoy at Clayesmore.
We are looking for someone who is:
● An excellent classroom practitioner with experience across a wide age and ability range.
● An effective leader, with strong administrative and organisational skills.
● Enthusiastic about working in a busy boarding school environment.
● Committed to holistic education, with interests and skills to contribute beyond the classroom.
● Forward-looking, optimistic, and an inspiring role model for colleagues and pupils alike.
A recognised teaching qualification and prior experience in EAL are desirable, but we welcome applications from those with equivalent experience and a genuine commitment to professional growth.
